Fix, New, or Re-built

October 21st, 2009 at 09:20 pm

My Mac is dying. Well, not really, but the logic board is bad and it's putting these vertical lines all over the screen, In a month or two we will be unable to read stuff. We went to the genius bar at the local Apple store to have it checked, that's when we found out the logic board will cost $800 to replace. Husband says we should get a new Dell for that price, but Son (who helped buy this one) and I hate that idea. I know lots of you are PC fans, but spare me the sermons please. I've used Win-doze machines for years at work and I still want a Mac.

We could get a new Mac in maybe two years because we have no money now, or we could get a restored mac the same age as this one for a little more than the logic board fix.

I guess we have time to decide. but not much. Santa also has no money for this.

Have you considered looking online for the part yourself? You might be able to find it cheaper and if you are afraid of installing it, you could always convince your son that he has to install it. Big Grin

Hey, I use a Mac. Love it. I use it for all my design and graphic work, and I use a cheap windows laptop for web surfing, etc.

I used to use a Mac at work and liked it pretty well. My Dell at home, on the other hand, has given me continuing problems, mainly, freezing up when i'm in different programs. I have no idea why, but it drives me nuts.
